{"id":91,"date":"2009-10-18T18:30:22","date_gmt":"2009-10-18T17:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jgt.me.uk\/?p=91"},"modified":"2009-10-18T18:30:22","modified_gmt":"2009-10-18T17:30:22","slug":"updating-to-the-virtual-hypervisor-vmware-esxi-3i-u4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jgt.me.uk\/?p=91","title":{"rendered":"Updating to the Virtual Hypervisor VMware ESXi 3i U4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve updated this now to VMware ESXi 4.0.<\/p>\n<p>The install process itself was reasonably easy, once I&#8217;d installed <a title=\"vSphere\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/tryvmware\/index.php?p=vsphere&amp;lp=1\" target=\"_blank\">vSphere<\/a>. You could then apply the update to the server from that using an image you download.<\/p>\n<p>Not much to report other than the fact that I still think the memory on this machine needs to be higher &#8211; Currently its 2Gb and still doesn&#8217;t seem to be enough to run Windows 7 quickly.<\/p>\n<p>At this rate I may build a Win 7 box and install <a title=\"VMWare Server\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vmware.com\/products\/server\/\" target=\"_blank\">VMWare Server<\/a> on it and see if it performs better that way&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been fun running with the &#8220;Bare Metal&#8221; version but it&#8217;s not for the home user &#8211; set-up is none-too-easy although i probably won&#8217;t be in a position to comment until I can use iSCSI as a resource (which means i&#8217;m waiting on the Netgear ReadyNAS to get their stuff done!).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve updated this now to VMware ESXi 4.0.
